just wanted to share ,
My twins Erin and Ethan were born at 24 weeks into my fourth pregnancy , before the twins I'd been so lucky never to have experienced neonatal ,special care, truthfully even a sick child except the usual coughs and cold all kids get. I realise now how lucky I was .
my twins fought hard for life from the start , battling every second and in the beginning it was erin who was the poorlier twin and the one we so nearly lost, but fate turned things around Ethan grew weaker and Erin grew stronger.
Every time I arrived at neonates they'd say good news erin, bad news ethan ,I remember screaming one day when is god going to give my boy a break , why is it always him,
don't get me wrong I'd never wish what he went through on erin or any baby but I was so sick of him always being the poorliest baby in the whole of neonates .
when we first brought Erin home aged 100 days we brought her home on her own because Ethan wasn't ready , looking back now I think it was my little boy's way of preparing me that I had to get used to having just erin
At home she cried all the time, the only time she didn't was when we visited Ethan , She knew when he was bad and would cry till i rang the unit then stop every time i was on the phone to the unit , like she knew mummy was talking about her Ethan .
she needed an operation on her eyes at 5 months ,it was meant to be a day case thing but she nearly died as both her lung collapsed she was in hospital 70 miles away from her twin but he knew she was ill ,the nurses in basingstoke were ethan was said he was strangely quiet all day and really behaved as far as his sats were concerned . It was like he knew Erin needed all mummy and daddy's attention at that time .
after several scary hours with Erin, Ethan decided to get back some of the attention and the doctors rang to say he needed to be transferred to southampton ( the hospital were erin was) for surgery to his stomach if that wasn't bad enough they needed to transfer erin to oxford for further surgery
The twins passed each other in ambulances on different sides of the motorway , both needing us at the same time, both equally poorily both fighting for life again , they operated on erin first then when she was stable we dashed down the motorway to be with ethan in time for his surgery and he beat all expectations the doctors had given him . finally after a few days both twins were transferred back to basingstoke (our home hospital ) and after a few weeks i got my wish and walked out that hospital with both my babies and headed home ,we had 6 wonderful weeks of being ''normal '' then ethan took another turn and returned to hospital , he never returned home . until the day we laided him to rest.
I just wanted to share something about both my twins and say I love all my children equally ,I am proud to be their mummy and honoured to have my memories .
Erin is disabled , partially blind ,partially deaf , but totally amazing , I believe she may not see but Ethan will always guide her through her life.
