My lark. My angel. My boy.

Today, January 8th, is the 74th anniversary of the birth of Elvis, the King of Rock and Roll.

But Elvis was a twin; his brother, Jessie, was stillborn, so I think that makes him the King of Lone Twins too.

When he is old enough to talk about his brother, I intend to tell my son that another very special person was a lone twin, particularly on this day, in the hope that it will help him understand his loss.

In fact I think this day should be designated International Lone Twins Day!

best wishes

My mum told me about Elvis's Twin when Jake died. She is a huge Elvis fan.

I think International Lone Twin day is a brilliant idea!

I am old enough (just!) to know exactly where I was when Elvis died, and though I love his music I can't claim to be any authority on him.

But I was aware that he was he was an only child and very close to his mother and can recall a famous photo of them together - and I can't do the same for any other popstar! That and the fact that his twin brother is mentioned straight away in the biography section on his official website makes me think that Jessie was an important part of their lives and their love for each other, and that they were open about their loss. Which is another good reason for their birthday to be International Lone Twin Day!

best wishes,
Gilly
