I am just wondering if anyone from Northern Ireland has heard/received notification of where this year's SANDS christmas service is. I think I have usually heard by now. It usually takes place a week or so before Christmas but I haven't heard anything yet??

Hi Catherine

It's on the Friday 11th December at 7:30pm in St. Mark's Church, Portadown.

I have something else on that evening and am not going. However even if I hadn't already committed myself to being somewhere else I don't think I would go. I think it's not appropriate for this event to be held in a church that it not accessible to many people with it being so far away from Belfast.

Further, Portadown is a town with a very sectarian image for reasons apparent to anyone living in Northern Ireland, and I think that also puts people off attending.

I also believe, given how divisive religion is in Northern Ireland, the service should alternate between different churches here in much the same way as Remember Our Child does.

However I must stress for anyone who is thinking about attending that it is a beautiful service and everyone is made to feel very welcome, regardless of what denomination you are.

HMMMM. It was in Portadown last year and the year before - am I right. I know we didn't go last year because I was in Portugal with the prize Emily won for Bonny Baby but I am almost sure it was Portadown the year before. It is very far for us. Especially with Emily. If we take her she will be exhausted and if we don't she will be asleep by the time we get home. HMMM. Not sure. Thanks for letting me know though. Will mention to Paul.

Catherine it's always in the same church in Portadown.

It's convenient only to those who live there.
