Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place xx

I have recently been diagnosed as having an overactive thyroid gland. I've been on tablets for it for about 6 weeks now and feeling a bit better but just wondered if anyone has had any experience with it or knows much about it.

The main reason i ask is most of you know we want to TTC again but it has been put on hold due to the medication i am on. They have advised me not to as it carries a high risk of miscarriage. So got to wait until it is changed in a few weeks. Anyway, just wondered if anyone knew if thyroid problems are screened for usually in pregnancy or can they be detected in pregnancy blood tests?

I have been doing some research and most of it says that an undetected overactive thyroid in pregnancy can cause premature births. So now I'm really worried that i could of had it during my pregnancy and it went unnoticed and that was the cause of it. I don't know if I'm looking into it too much and trying to find a 'reason' for Ellie being born so early but its really been upsetting me. I'm not seeing my consultant again until 20th July, he's on holiday!!

Hope that makes sense and i haven't rambled on too much!!

Thank you for any replies xxxxx

I really haven't a clue about thyroid problems, so couldn't help you there.

I hope you can find an answer as I am sure it must be difficult for you wondering if this really was what caused Ellie to be born so early

Claire

Like you know I too have just been diagnosed with the same condition as you overactive thyroid.  The doctor did ask if I planned to have any more children, I replied no but what would happen If I did.  She said it would still be possible but I would be monitored closely and they would probably change my dose of tablets for give me a different type all together.  I am glad you tablets are working for you, mine are not doing anything at all,  Here anytime.

Take care
