My four year old Marissa is going into hospital on Friday morning to have an operation on her birthmark.  This is the first of possibly three procedures.  We just found out today and I have been feeling quite tearful since.

The thing that worries me is the general anaesthetic.  We have tried to prepare her as best we can, buying her a book about a little boy going into hospital.  She enjoys the book apart from one page where Ben gets his anaesthetic.

I know that she will be okay but I don't want her to sense how worried I am about this....

Any advice would be appreciated...

Thanks

Sorry I haven't got any advice but just wanted to say that I hope everything goes well for your little girl on friday.

Is she allowed to take a favourite teddy/toy up to the point where she gets put to sleep? this might help her not to be so worried if she can?

yeah, i remember when i went into hospital i was about 5 i think. and they put a wristband around my teddy and took me and the teddy into the room where they give you anasthetic, and they out the mask over teddys face first so i could see it wasnt going to hurt me (so impressionable at that age, i believed it!).

that might be an option.

everything will soon be over and just fine.

love jane. xxxx kis

Many thanks for your kind words...

Yes she can take something in with her.  She has a soft Belle (her pride n joy) so I think Belle will be with her...

I'll keep you updated.

Once again

Thanks

I'm sure she'll be fine.  I think its probably harder for the parents than the children.  Yes she'll be scared, but you'll be with her until she falls asleep which should reassure her a little.

Let us know how she gets on please.
