Im so tired today, had such a long day yesterday. Aiden hasnt been keeping much food down over the past few days, then yesterday he sicked up most of his bottles straight after each feed so I decided to take him to the out of hours clinic yesterday evening. Because he's so young she refered us straight the the pediatrition at the hospital. We were there for ages while they observed him and checked him over. I felt so useless when he was crying the whole time, its not fair that an 11 day old baby should get ill. Anyway after hours of checks they decideded that Aiden is suffering from reflux, so they have given us some pre-thickened formula to try him on. It seems to have worked so far, he is much more peaceful today and has managed to keep most of his milk down which has pleased me so much. My head was all over the place last night cuz i was so worried that I didnt get chance to ask much about reflux, though I wish i had now. I know its not too serious as long as he keeps gaining weight, but there are a lot of questions i should have asked. Like how long will he need this formula for? will i be able to switch back to his old formula? The powder then have given us will only last a couple of days, but my appointment with the hospital isnt until thursday, so i think i'll have to go and see my GP either tomorrow or monday to find out if i need to get some more.

Sorry for babbling on, but think im still a little confused by it all. I just want my baby to be healthy, he's so little n it just doesnt seem fair.

Livvy had reflux and my non medical understanding is that it is something he will grow out of but it may take time.

It is only the milk coming back up and giving him that horrible feeling in his chest.

obviously for livvy with bad lungs the problem was wet lungs but i believe it is not usually a problem. (livvy had diaretics to make her wee so she didnt keep excess fluid on board)

it causes different issues for diffrent babies and the hospital will check if Aiden needs anti-biotics or anything.

I would see your gp and get more stuff until you have been to the hospital.

Try not to worry but i know this is hard.

My baby girl has reflux, she isnt so bad now she is 5 months old but still needs the infant gaviscon occassionly, apparently most babies grow out of it by a year old.  kis

aw hun!

my nephew suffered with this when he was a baby - he is now a strapping lad nearly 6 foot tall!!

it is a worry, he also had the thickened formula, but he went back on normal formula when he started solids.

i am sure everything will be fine, and if you speak to your gp, i am sure they wont mind answering all the questions you forgot to ask when you were in hospital,.

Josh suffered from reflux when he was ickle, he had grown out of it by about 3 and a hlf months i think

Your right, its so unfair when little tiny helpless babies get ill. they cant make us understand how they feel ( other than with lots and lots of screaming  )

I hope Aiden will continue to do well on his special milk!!
